Ever heard of Pay Per Lead or Cost Per enquiry? This is a model a number of SEO people offer who feel they should get value for the marketing services they provide. Typically the more leads an SEO can generate, the more money they are likely to make which means that they may do a mixed range of marketing to get you leads.
I often get asked if I would be interested in setting up a website & doing SEO for a % of someone’s business, that is someone who has a business idea and doesn’t want to take any risk whatsoever they want me to provide a website and SEO for their business, anyone who wants someone to take a risk like that clearly doesn’t believe in their own business plan. Having said this, I’m always very interested in taking the risk in certain niches as with this model it can work well for both parties but primarily for me.
Alongside SEO, PPC, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing and Display Advertising are just a number of other ways that they may promote a website in order to generate leads. This Pay Per Lead model appeals to me personally as I have enough confidence in my skills to ensure that if I get paid per lead, I’d make far more money than being on a monthly retainer.
Typically what would happen with the cost per enquiry model is:
- I provide the website
- I provide and track the number on the website
- I track all the enquiries that come via the website
- I invoice you monthly for the leads
As a result:
- You get a professional looking website
- You get a website that ranks and gets marketed on a monthly basis
- You get visitors and leads for your products or services
- You pay your monthly invoice for the leads generated by the website
It eliminates the whole reporting process that an SEO agency has to provide a client and ultimately justifies their services to the client without the SEO having to listen to the client waffling about this that and the next thing. It also helps the client because they don’t have to worry about what they are paying for, hope that their SEO is doing the work required or listen to their SEO’s waffling technical jargon that they don’t understand.
So if you use me for this then it’ll stops us from having any issues in the middle where you don’t know what your paying for and allows us to spend all of our time generating leads and enquiries for your business whilst keeping everyone happy – there are no contracts either so if you don’t get leads or you simply don’t have anything to pay then you’re free to walk away.
When you do get leads, I get decent money for the time and effort I’ve put into the website and there is no opinions or debates to be had. If it takes me 5 minutes work per month to get you 100 enquiries that’s exactly what it is, if it takes 100 hours per month then again that’s what it is we will rank the site and ensure we are earning the money we should be for bringing value to your business.
So that is a win-win situation for everyone concerned when using the pay per lead model that is on offer.
From an SEO point of view and I’m sure any SEO expert will agree, doing SEO for clients who have a low budget can be very time-consuming. This is because you have to work with the client even when they have no idea what they are talking about and I often find that most of my time is spent, reporting, consulting and educating the client, with there being a small amount of time actually spent doing actual SEO or marketing work. This isn’t really productive all round which means that this model has to be the most efficient model for certain industries.
SEO in certain niches cannot work around the pay per lead model as it’s simply just easier to take a monthly retainer but some niches I do have an interest in for Pay Per Lead SEO and marketing services are:
